About IsAIDownNow

IsAIDownNow answers one question quickly: is an AI service down right now, or is it just you? It's an independent site run by a solo creator in the UK. It isn't affiliated with or endorsed by any of the companies whose services it checks.

How we decide

Every minute, for each of the 15 services we watch, we combine three signals:

  1. The official status page. Where the company publishes one, we read its machine-readable feed (for example OpenAI's, Anthropic's and GitHub's status pages). This is the strongest signal and outranks everything else.
  2. Our own checks. We send one ordinary request per minute to each service's public website and API addresses from Cloudflare's network, and record whether they answer and how fast. We never log in, never use paid API calls, and identify ourselves with the user agent IsAIDownNow-monitor (+https://isaidownnow.com/about). Many services answer automated requests with “forbidden” or “unauthorised”; that still proves they're reachable. Only timeouts, connection failures and server errors (5xx) count as failures, and only after 2 checks in a row.
  3. Visitor reports. We count “down for me” and “working for me” clicks over the last 15 minutes. It counts as a spike when there are at least 5 “down” reports, at least 4 times the service's normal level, and more “down” than “working” reports.

The verdict follows simple rules:

  • 🔴 Likely down: the official page reports a major outage, or our checks keep failing and there's a second signal (a report spike or an official problem).
  • ⚠️ Some users report problems: the official page reports degraded performance, a partial outage, maintenance or an open incident; or our checks keep failing; or there's a report spike. Reports alone can never make us say “Likely down”.
  • ✅ No problems: none of the above.

Every service page shows which signals produced its verdict and when it was last updated.

Incidents

We open an incident when a service stops looking normal or its company posts an official incident, log what happens minute by minute, and close it after 15 minutes of everything looking normal. Short incidents with no official confirmation are kept out of search engines.

Limits

Status data can be wrong. Official pages can lag, our checks come from Cloudflare's network rather than your connection, and visitor reports can be noisy. Some outages only affect certain regions, accounts or features. Always check the provider's own status page for the final word.

Money

The site is paid for by clearly labelled NordVPN and ExpressVPN affiliate links and, possibly later, by advertising. Ads never appear above a status verdict, and money never changes what a status page says. See our affiliate disclosure.
