1. Check which Google account you're usingIf you use a work or school Google account, your administrator may have switched Gemini off for it. Try your personal Google account to see whether that's the cause.
2. Sign out of extra Google accountsBeing signed in to several Google accounts at once can confuse Gemini. Open gemini.google.com in a private window and sign in with just one account. If it works there, clear site data or sign out of the other accounts.
3. Make sure Gemini is offered to youGemini isn't available in every country or to every age group. If it has never worked for you, check Google's Gemini help pages for availability instead of waiting for a fix.
4. Reload and start a new chatIf one conversation keeps failing, start a new one. Long chats with many uploads are more likely to fail than short ones.
5. For developers: read the Gemini API error429 RESOURCE_EXHAUSTED means you've hit a rate limit or quota for your project. 403 PERMISSION_DENIED usually points to an API key or project setting. 500 INTERNAL and 503 UNAVAILABLE are on Google's side and are worth retrying with backoff.
6. Check Google AI Studio's own status pageGoogle AI Studio and the Gemini API have a separate status page at aistudio.google.com/status. The Gemini app and the API can have problems at different times.

Why isn't there a separate Gemini status page?

Google reports Gemini app incidents on its Google Workspace status dashboard, next to Gmail and Drive. Developer services have their own page at aistudio.google.com/status. We read the Workspace dashboard automatically and check both the app and the API ourselves.

Gemini works on my phone but not on my computer. Why?

That usually points to the browser rather than an outage. Try a private window, sign out of extra Google accounts, or clear site data for gemini.google.com.

If the Gemini app is down, is the Gemini API down too?

Not necessarily. They run as separate services and are reported on different Google status pages. We check both, so look at the Website and API lines under our checks.

My work account can't open Gemini. Is it down?

Probably not. Google Workspace administrators can turn Gemini on or off for their users. Ask your IT team, or test with a personal Google account.
