Is it a limit, or is Gemini down? Gemini right now: No problems checked · live status · outage history
Since May 2026, Google no longer gives personal Gemini plans a fixed number of prompts a day. Limits are now based on how much computing your requests use, refresh every five hours and have a weekly cap. Work and school accounts still have published numbers. Here's what Google's own pages say.
How Gemini limits work
- Limits depend on how much computing your requests use: how complex the prompt is, which model and features you use, and how long the chat is. source
- Your limit refreshes every five hours, until you reach your weekly limit. source
- Google replaced the old daily prompt limits with this model in May 2026. source
- Video generation uses the most; a simple chat uses very little. source
- Google can change limits without notice, for example when capacity is tight. source

Work and school accounts (Google Workspace)
Google does publish numbers for Gemini with a work or school account. These are daily caps, so they work differently from the personal plans above.
- Business Standard and Plus: up to 25 Pro prompts per 4 hours. source
- Business Standard and Plus: up to 300 Thinking prompts a day. source
- Deep Research: 5 reports a month on Business Starter, 20 a day on Business Standard and Plus. source
- Images: up to 20 a day on Business Starter, up to 100 a day on Business Standard and Plus. source
- Daily limits reset at midnight Pacific time; monthly limits on the 1st of the month. source
What happens when you hit a limit
- Gemini tells you when your limit will refresh. source
- You can upgrade to a plan with higher limits, or wait for the refresh. source
- Subscribers who hit their limit can carry on with the Flash-Lite model. source
- To see where you stand, open Settings, then Usage limits, at gemini.google.com. source
When does my limit reset?
An estimate based on the provider's published rules, shown in your own time zone. Your app shows the exact time when you reach a limit. Nothing you enter is sent or saved.
- The weekly limit's reset day and time aren't published. Gemini shows yours in Settings > Usage limits. source
What Google's pages don't say
Where the official information is missing or vague, we say so rather than guess.
- How many prompts the “standard” limit allows, or how big the weekly limit is. source
- Per-feature numbers (Deep Research, images, video, Audio Overviews) for personal plans. source
- Whether the five-hour window starts at your first prompt or rolls continuously. source
- Whether AI credits can extend Gemini app limits: the subscriptions page says they can, but Google's May 2026 announcement says this is “coming soon”. source
- Two Google pages list different AI Plus prices (£4.49 and £7.99 a month); they appear to be different storage bundles. source
