Claude doesn't publish a number of messages per plan. Instead, paid plans have a five-hour session limit and a weekly limit, and how quickly you use them depends on what you ask. Here's what Anthropic's own pages say, plan by plan.
How Claude limits work
- Paid plans have two limits: a session limit that resets every five hours, and a weekly limit. source
- The five-hour session starts with your first message and resets in full five hours later. source
- The weekly limit resets on a fixed day and time assigned to your account, whenever you start using Claude. source
- claude.ai, Claude Code and the Claude desktop app all draw from the same limit. source
- There's no fixed number of messages. Longer chats, bigger files, larger models and higher effort settings use your limit faster. source

What happens when you hit a limit
- Claude warns you when you're close, then tells you when the limit resets. source
- You can wait for the reset or upgrade. A new plan's limits apply straight away. source
- Paid plans can turn on usage credits to keep going, billed at API rates. source
- Usage credits don't change when your limits reset. source
When does my limit reset?
An estimate based on the provider's published rules, shown in your own time zone. Your app shows the exact time when you reach a limit. Nothing you enter is sent or saved.
- The weekly limit can't be calculated: each account has its own fixed reset day and time. Claude shows yours in Settings > Usage. source
What Anthropic's pages don't say
Where the official information is missing or vague, we say so rather than guess.
- No plan has a published number of messages or tokens. source
- Whether the Free plan has a weekly limit: the pricing page says “every week”, but Anthropic's Free plan help article only mentions the five-hour limit. source
- The size and length of the temporary limit on unverified Ultra accounts. source
- The pricing page calls the session a “rolling” window, while the help centre says it resets in full five hours after your first message. We follow the help centre. source
